Explore the area on foot, by bike or boat
Having started with around 30 pitches, Camping Markdal has grown into a holiday park with 60 comfortable pitches with direct sailing connections to the river. You can also explore the beautiful area by boat from the marinas. From the water, visit places such as Zevenbergen, Breda, the fortified city of Willemstad and Etten-Leur, or nature reserves like De Slikken van de Heen and De Biesbosch National Park: Europe’s largest freshwater tidal zone. It’s also wonderful cycling through the polders, with numerous places to stop off along the way for tasty refreshments. The famous Oudenbosch Basilica – a smaller version of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome – is definitely worth visiting!

Tip for your visit: settle down on a bench for an ‘insect meditation’. The spacious kitchen garden – with many colourful flowers, vegetable planters and plum trees – makes this a place to celebrate insects and bees. You can even buy honey from the beehives on the site. What could be more relaxing than sitting on a bench enjoying the insects flying from flower to flower?

To then go for a refreshing swim in the river, which appears to be fantastic: ‘What a lovely and beautiful place! Wonderful swimming in the Mark! And what sweet owners!’
